Lost Horizon

Written in 1933, Lost Horizon was the first book published into paperback. That trivia fact sparked my interest to read this one. I truly enjoyed this novel. It is written as a flashback narrative and begins at the end. The main premise tells the tale of Conway, a man who along with three other airplane passengers are hijacked and taken to Shangri-La. Shangri-La is a place of peace, wisdom, wealth, and time tucked away in the remote Tibetan mountains. It is a true paradise which allows one to pursue his/her ambitions without the constraints of time. Conway learns from the master High Lama the history of Shangri-La and the secrets it holds. However, one of his fellow captives is not too keen on staying. What was once considered a hijacking could now be considered a gift to escape from the outside world. Will Conway stay or help his friend escape? Would you stay in a place of paradise if it meant giving up all that you knew to be true? Lost Horizon is a true classic that explores one's choices and opportunities.
