What a brave soul Maya Van Wagenen became when she took on the cliques and popular kids of her Brownsville, Texas school. Maya was inspired by her mom and a book from the 1950s. Each month, Maya attempted one of the tips to become popular that was recommended by Betty Cornell's book from 60 years ago. Although she faced unrelenting stares and comments, Maya persevered and learned the true meaning of being popular.
