Okay, we are back into full school mode. Sad to say I only read a smattering of books this Summer, so I am glad to be back and ready to read. Last May we received and order of new books and Trafficked by Kim Purcell just really stood out to me. Living in the greater Houston area we frequently hear news reports of human trafficking. Some of our students did a service learning project last year related to human trafficking. All that to say, I wanted to read this one!
Purcell's novel follows the life of Hannah, a Moldovan teenager, whose tragic circumstances connect her to the wrong people. Hannah believes she is being sent to Los Angeles to work as a nanny for a family. Little does she know how she was specifically selected to work for this family nor does she know of their connects to her own family. Hannah just wants a better life and the opportunity to learn English and become a doctor. She does not foresee the difficult path that will lead her to that new life. Trafficked reminds readers of the cold hard fact that our world is full of cruel human predators who take advantage of others in search for a better life.
