Yann, earns himself a spot as a magician's assistant. He is able to read minds and flick his voice, which serves him well during the turbulent cusp of the French Revolution. Yann has always know he was different, and his surrogate father Tetu attempts to protect Yann from the secrets of his past. Although on the brink of war, Yann's secrets are held by a villainous Count, a Marquis, and a young girl.
Readers will be engulfed in the characters of Yann, Tetu, Sido and the evil Count. I feel the cover of this book lends itself to female readers; however, guys would appreciate the adventure and historical fiction elements.
This was the first book I had read by Sally Gardner. She lives in London and made her start as an illustrator. She has also written I, Coriander and The Red Necklace sequel, The Silver Blade due out in September 2009.
